This guide describes how to use Steam Proton to play and run Windows games on your Linux computer. Some games may not work or may break because Steam Proton is still at a very early stage.
1. Activating Steam Proton for Linux:
Proton is integrated into the Steam Client with "Steam Play." To activate proton, go into your steam client and click on Steam in the upper right corner. Then click on settings to open a new window. From here, click on the Steam Play button at the bottom of the panel. Click "Enable Steam Play for Supported Titles."
Alternatively: Go to Steam > Settings > Steam Play and turn on the "Enable Steam Play for Supported Titles" option.
Valve has tested and fixed some Steam titles and you will now be able to play most of them. However, if you want to go further and play titles that even Valve hasn't tested, toggle the "Enable Steam Play for all titles" option.
2. Choose a version
You should use the Steam Proton version recommended by Steam: 3.7-8. This is the most stable version of Steam Proton at the moment.
3. Restart your Steam
After you have successfully activated Steam Proton, click "OK" and Steam will ask you to restart it for the changes to take effect. Restart it. Your computer will now play all of steam's whitelisted games seamlessly.
4. Launch Stardew Valley on Linux:
Before you can use Steam Proton, you must first download the Stardew Valley Windows game from Steam. When you download Stardew Valley for the first time, you will notice that the download size is slightly larger than the size of the game.
This happens because Steam will download your chosen Steam Proton version with this game as well. After the download is complete, simply click the "Play" button.
A single player card battler without limits: every hand playable, every battle unique. Where champions grow their armies through promotion and the spoils of battle. With no mana system to hold you back, success depends on how you place your forces and outthink your enemies.
As the Champion, you command your units and spells. Without a mana or energy system, you can play all the cards in your hand. The game’s strategy relies on which cards to play, when to play them, and where on the battlefield you deploy them.
The goal is to destroy the opponent’s banner, but to do that, you will need to defeat the forces deployed against you. Conversely, the enemy is trying to deal damage to your Champion. Without ally units in the battlefield to protect you, enemy attacks target your Champion directly.
Champions lead from the rear and direct their troops. However, as your forces are eliminated and spells are cast, your Champion gains the power to activate their unique ability card that can help turn the flow of battle. Each of the 28 Champions has a unique design, each with its own tactics and flavor.
You begin your adventure with a Champion of the Scales faction, but more are unlocked through accomplishing various gameplay objectives. Each of the seven factions has access to 4 special promotion gems that allow you to boost your favored units in unique ways. As you travel through each of the enemy territories you will also have the opportunity to recruit enemy units and salvage foreign promotion gems to unlock a nearly unlimited combination of game-breaking effects.
Each adventure tests your mettle in three different enemy regions, offering a unique experience with every campaign. Choose your path through enemy territory wisely, selecting between many challenging encounters with different rewards on your way to the final clash with an enemy Champion.
