Guide: Installing Hyperspacer on Linux with Steam Proton

This guide describes how to use Steam Proton to play and run Windows games on your Linux computer. Some games may not work or may break because Steam Proton is still at a very early stage.

1. Activating Steam Proton for Linux:
Proton is integrated into the Steam Client with "Steam Play." To activate proton, go into your steam client and click on Steam in the upper right corner. Then click on settings to open a new window. From here, click on the Steam Play button at the bottom of the panel. Click "Enable Steam Play for Supported Titles."

Alternatively: Go to Steam > Settings > Steam Play and turn on the "Enable Steam Play for Supported Titles" option.

Valve has tested and fixed some Steam titles and you will now be able to play most of them. However, if you want to go further and play titles that even Valve hasn't tested, toggle the "Enable Steam Play for all titles" option.

2. Choose a version
You should use the Steam Proton version recommended by Steam: 3.7-8. This is the most stable version of Steam Proton at the moment.

3. Restart your Steam
After you have successfully activated Steam Proton, click "OK" and Steam will ask you to restart it for the changes to take effect. Restart it. Your computer will now play all of steam's whitelisted games seamlessly.

4. Launch Stardew Valley on Linux:
Before you can use Steam Proton, you must first download the Stardew Valley Windows game from Steam. When you download Stardew Valley for the first time, you will notice that the download size is slightly larger than the size of the game.
This happens because Steam will download your chosen Steam Proton version with this game as well. After the download is complete, simply click the "Play" button.

What is Hyperspacer? Features and Description

Travel through space in your own spaceship, land on planets and moons, learn about local history, perform various tasks, collect scientific data, gather minerals, acquire better equipment, upgrade your ship, advance your skills, and delve into the main storyline.

Hyperspacer is a 2D space exploration rpg game. The game features two game modes. The first mode is to fly in space with your own spaceship. The other mode is walking on the surface of moons or planets.

Flying a spaceship allows you to move between planets and moons. Each star system is a wide area where you can fly left and right at will. Along the way, you will find planets, moons and places from which you can make a hyperjump to other star systems. This way, you can explore the entire Arantian sector of the galaxy, where the gameplay takes place. There are 27 star systems available, with 88 celestial bodies to land on.

Walking on the surface is the mode where the main part of the gameplay takes place. You can fight enemies, sneak past them, collect resources, gather scientific data, and perform various missions. On inhabited worlds the opponents will often be rebels of various kinds, bandits, smugglers, troops of rebellious factions. On uninhabited planets they will more often be dangerous beasts. Not only better weapons, but also various accessories such as medical kits, personal energy shields, invisibility generators and levitating skateboards can be helpful.

On some planets you will find towns. There you can sell your collected spoils, buy new weapons and supplies, and install upgrades to your ship. You can also buy a brand new, better spaceship. You will also get mini-quests in cities. For completing them you will receive not only hyperdollars, but also valuable mission points. Mission points allow you to develop your character's skills, such as attack, defense, science, mining, gadgeting and survival.
Talking to the locals, you can learn about the local history and current geopolitical situation, as well as a little about the surrounding planets and star systems.

The beginning of the game, is pure exploration, getting to know this sector of the galaxy. Once you reach a certain planet, you may come across the beginning of the main storyline. This main quest will take you on a journey through the entire sector and allow you to delve even deeper into its affairs. It will shed new light on the situation of the planets you've visited before, and even the entire galaxy.

Hyperspacer is a one-man project that I worked on for three years. This is the first computer game I've ever made. But this is not my first RPG work. Previously, I used to operate as a game master on various mmo crpg servers. I created quests, built locations, generated millions of NPCs. You could say that it was my volunteer practice. In my work as a game master, I've always liked to go big. Epic story, great war, turmoil, destruction, adventure. I think I've managed to encapsulate all of this in Hyperspacer.

If you want to see a little more, I invite you to watch the longer trailer on youtube.

          Hyperspacer is made in GDevelop.
          And it's made in Poland.
