Guide: Installing Fastival on Linux with Steam Proton

This guide describes how to use Steam Proton to play and run Windows games on your Linux computer. Some games may not work or may break because Steam Proton is still at a very early stage.

1. Activating Steam Proton for Linux:
Proton is integrated into the Steam Client with "Steam Play." To activate proton, go into your steam client and click on Steam in the upper right corner. Then click on settings to open a new window. From here, click on the Steam Play button at the bottom of the panel. Click "Enable Steam Play for Supported Titles."

Alternatively: Go to Steam > Settings > Steam Play and turn on the "Enable Steam Play for Supported Titles" option.

Valve has tested and fixed some Steam titles and you will now be able to play most of them. However, if you want to go further and play titles that even Valve hasn't tested, toggle the "Enable Steam Play for all titles" option.

2. Choose a version
You should use the Steam Proton version recommended by Steam: 3.7-8. This is the most stable version of Steam Proton at the moment.

3. Restart your Steam
After you have successfully activated Steam Proton, click "OK" and Steam will ask you to restart it for the changes to take effect. Restart it. Your computer will now play all of steam's whitelisted games seamlessly.

4. Launch Stardew Valley on Linux:
Before you can use Steam Proton, you must first download the Stardew Valley Windows game from Steam. When you download Stardew Valley for the first time, you will notice that the download size is slightly larger than the size of the game.
This happens because Steam will download your chosen Steam Proton version with this game as well. After the download is complete, simply click the "Play" button.

System Requirements

Windows Pc Requirements

Minimum:
  • Requires a 64-bit processor and operating system
  • OS: Windows 10 64-bit
  • Processor: Intel i5-6600K, AMD 1600X or better
  • Memory: 8 GB RAM
  • Graphics: Single player: NVIDIA GTX 1050; AMD Radeon 7950, or better; Multiplayer: NVIDIA GTX 1080, AMD RX 5700XT or better (with "Low" graphics settings)
  • DirectX: Version 12
  • Storage: 2 GB available space
  • Additional Notes: On "Low" graphics settings, the game is playable in single-player mode with older hardware including recent integrated graphics CPUs. However, to take advantage of muiltiplayer or higher graphics settings, a GPU is required.

Recommended:
  • Requires a 64-bit processor and operating system
  • OS: Windows 10 or 11 64-bit
  • Processor: Intel 10th Gen, AMD Zen3, or better
  • Memory: 16 GB RAM

What is Fastival? Features and Description

Race through an enchanting carnival and be on the lookout for wacky obstacles and cool shortcuts as you compete against up to three other friends in this cute and cartoony arcade racing game!

Fastival is an arcade racing game where players speed through different attractions within a vibrant and cartoony carnival throughout each race. Knock down targets as you race to trigger unique effects on the track that you can use to your advantage. Collect wacky items that can be used to mess with other racers to enhance your driving capabilities.

          Race Through Three Unique Tracks

Each track is a different section of the Fastival with its own fun theme. Enter the Fastival in “Whirling Welcome,” navigating tight turns and spiraling around a merry go round. Navigate a field of giant wack-a-moles popping up and down and zoom across a roller coaster. Fly through a ring of fire and get launched by a cannon up into the big top circus tent.

          Master Each Bumper Car

Fastival features four different types of bumper cars that players can choose from each with unique driving strengths and weaknesses. The Shark car boasts a higher top speed but is more challenging to control while the Vintage car is slower to accelerate but heavier, allowing you to utilize drifting to your advantage more often.

Knock Down Targets to Affect the Race

In Fastival, you can gain an advantage as you race through unique interactions with the environment. Knock down targets in each race by driving through them to trigger a temporary effect on the race track. Some targets will reveal a shorter path while others activate hazards that other racers have to steer clear of.

Use Items to Take Out the Competition

As you race, collect carnival tickets that turn into one of five fun items. Activate a firecracker to launch yourself forward and gain temporary invincibility, or throw a volley of water balloons at other racers to spin out their vehicles.

          Customize Your Racer

Mix and match between four cute costumes and color palettes.

          Developer Notes

Fastival was created by the students of Cohort 33 at SMU Guildhall, a graduate video game design program in Dallas, Texas. In their second Team Game Project course ("TGP2"), the entire cohort of 47 students from all disciplines—Art Creation, Programming, Design, and Production—with help from three game music students in SMU's Meadows School of the Arts came together each day to make this game. For many students, this is their first experience working on a large team, and the course is designed to teach the students how to communicate at scale and iterate on the game design to find the fun. To accomplish this in roughly 12 weeks of production and produce such a vibrant, fun game is a challenge, and we are really proud to share their hard work with you.

Thank you for playing. We hope you enjoy Fastival. If you do, please consider leaving a kind note in the community hub and share the game with your friends.
