Guide: Installing Five Hundred on Linux with Steam Proton

This guide describes how to use Steam Proton to play and run Windows games on your Linux computer. Some games may not work or may break because Steam Proton is still at a very early stage.

1. Activating Steam Proton for Linux:
Proton is integrated into the Steam Client with "Steam Play." To activate proton, go into your steam client and click on Steam in the upper right corner. Then click on settings to open a new window. From here, click on the Steam Play button at the bottom of the panel. Click "Enable Steam Play for Supported Titles."

Alternatively: Go to Steam > Settings > Steam Play and turn on the "Enable Steam Play for Supported Titles" option.

Valve has tested and fixed some Steam titles and you will now be able to play most of them. However, if you want to go further and play titles that even Valve hasn't tested, toggle the "Enable Steam Play for all titles" option.

2. Choose a version
You should use the Steam Proton version recommended by Steam: 3.7-8. This is the most stable version of Steam Proton at the moment.

3. Restart your Steam
After you have successfully activated Steam Proton, click "OK" and Steam will ask you to restart it for the changes to take effect. Restart it. Your computer will now play all of steam's whitelisted games seamlessly.

4. Launch Stardew Valley on Linux:
Before you can use Steam Proton, you must first download the Stardew Valley Windows game from Steam. When you download Stardew Valley for the first time, you will notice that the download size is slightly larger than the size of the game.
This happens because Steam will download your chosen Steam Proton version with this game as well. After the download is complete, simply click the "Play" button.

The classic Five Hundred card game, now available on Steam!

Summary

This game has been lovingly crafted to be the best possible version of the game it can be. Coming to steam, the game now takes advantage of multiplayer, achievements, and leaderboards. Support for animated card tables (backdrops) has also been added.

However, release is only the beginning! Five Hundred is a game played in homes, workplaces, and clubs around the world, and players may have evolved their own house rules or optimal playstyles. I'm intending to monitor feedback and continue to provide enhancements to features, functionality, and gameplay over time.

Five Hundred cardgame

500 or Five Hundred is a trick-taking card game, originally from the United States, but also popular in the UK, Canada, Australia and New Zealand.
Paradice Five Hundred implements the most popular, 4-player variant, with two teams of two players, 10 cards per hand, and each player bidding for contracts.
The game supports bids of 6-10 tricks, in any suit (or no trumps), as well as a 3-card kitty issued to the highest bidder.
The game ends when one team scores over 500 points, or when a team loses by scoring negative 500 through failed bids.

Extensive graphical customisation options

  • Over 35 included table backgrounds, including animated options, or use your own images
  • 12 included cardsets, and compatibility with common internet cardset types (.reko, .wiz, .rkp)
  • 17 included cardbacks, or use your own images
  • Custom card set editor included: create your very own cardset!

Uses Steam multiplayer functionality

  • Parties of all sizes, from 2 to 4 players - co-operative, competitive, or both
  • AI Players automatically fill any available slots, or take over mid-game if players leave early
  • Invite players to join from your Steam friends list, or Join your friends
  • Public lobby system with matchmaking; find people to play with across the world!

Takes full advantage of Steam functionality

  • 25 Steam achievements built-in
  • Cloud saves and persistent, extensive game statistics tracking
  • Leaderboards to track games played globally
