This guide describes how to use Steam Proton to play and run Windows games on your Linux computer. Some games may not work or may break because Steam Proton is still at a very early stage.
1. Activating Steam Proton for Linux:
Proton is integrated into the Steam Client with "Steam Play." To activate proton, go into your steam client and click on Steam in the upper right corner. Then click on settings to open a new window. From here, click on the Steam Play button at the bottom of the panel. Click "Enable Steam Play for Supported Titles."
Alternatively: Go to Steam > Settings > Steam Play and turn on the "Enable Steam Play for Supported Titles" option.
Valve has tested and fixed some Steam titles and you will now be able to play most of them. However, if you want to go further and play titles that even Valve hasn't tested, toggle the "Enable Steam Play for all titles" option.
2. Choose a version
You should use the Steam Proton version recommended by Steam: 3.7-8. This is the most stable version of Steam Proton at the moment.
3. Restart your Steam
After you have successfully activated Steam Proton, click "OK" and Steam will ask you to restart it for the changes to take effect. Restart it. Your computer will now play all of steam's whitelisted games seamlessly.
4. Launch Stardew Valley on Linux:
Before you can use Steam Proton, you must first download the Stardew Valley Windows game from Steam. When you download Stardew Valley for the first time, you will notice that the download size is slightly larger than the size of the game.
This happens because Steam will download your chosen Steam Proton version with this game as well. After the download is complete, simply click the "Play" button.
A fast-paced, bloody, gothic, and stylish platformer video game about saving the mortal realm from the wrath of Hell's armies.
The year is 3058. Humanity is dead, and a race of robots called Symbions have taken their place.
You are Vikku "Ebic" Lamphart, a cloaked, vampiric Symbion.
Presumed dead and buried six feet under, you burst out of your grave, only to find your world invaded by demonic entities and corroded with rifts to the Underworld. Angered yet determined, you brandish your cross and proceed to dive head first into Hell's nine rings, ready to vanquish these beasts, strike down their mastermind, and save the mortal realm.
Eldabyss is a kickass, lightning fast, and unapologetically brutal platformer where you run, gun, slash, and dash through the rings of Hell on a wild goose chase to locate your rival. Threatening the mortal realm and by extension the universe, it's left all up to you to stop him in his tracks before he attains the perfect vessel to become the False God.
Grabbing tons of inspiration from the classics - such as Castlevania, Metroid, Kirby - and the nextgen - Super Meat Boy, Quake, Hollow Knight, and more - Eldabyss learns from example and packs everything you loved about your other platforming favorites into one neat package.
Air tight controls, almost unnecessary amounts of movement tech, and tons of ways to gain momentum and traverse Hell - everything you could dream of in a platformer is all right here!
Whether it's pulverizing the crowds with the Shot-Crucifix, blasting yourself into the air with the Nailed Rocket, shredding through the strong and the weak with the Bulletstream, or finding your way with any of the rest of the otherworldly and unreal arsenal at your fingertips, Eldabyss has something just for you.
Put your skills to the test and play the offensive or defensive roles in thrilling bossfights against the cores of Hell, machines, gods and goddesses, heavier demons, cultists, or maybe even go head to head with enemies you make along the way...
Dive even deeper into the abyss! Find small secrets spread all throughout the universe, backtrack and open doors that were locked, and even find new challenges that were hidden before!
Whether it's swapping stories, reuniting with friends, making plans, being set off for quests, confronting deities, or even just paying a visit to your local shopkeeper, Eldabyss is filled with unique and compelling scenery even when you're not shredding demons.
