This guide describes how to use Steam Proton to play and run Windows games on your Linux computer. Some games may not work or may break because Steam Proton is still at a very early stage.
1. Activating Steam Proton for Linux:
Proton is integrated into the Steam Client with "Steam Play." To activate proton, go into your steam client and click on Steam in the upper right corner. Then click on settings to open a new window. From here, click on the Steam Play button at the bottom of the panel. Click "Enable Steam Play for Supported Titles."
Alternatively: Go to Steam > Settings > Steam Play and turn on the "Enable Steam Play for Supported Titles" option.
Valve has tested and fixed some Steam titles and you will now be able to play most of them. However, if you want to go further and play titles that even Valve hasn't tested, toggle the "Enable Steam Play for all titles" option.
2. Choose a version
You should use the Steam Proton version recommended by Steam: 3.7-8. This is the most stable version of Steam Proton at the moment.
3. Restart your Steam
After you have successfully activated Steam Proton, click "OK" and Steam will ask you to restart it for the changes to take effect. Restart it. Your computer will now play all of steam's whitelisted games seamlessly.
4. Launch Stardew Valley on Linux:
Before you can use Steam Proton, you must first download the Stardew Valley Windows game from Steam. When you download Stardew Valley for the first time, you will notice that the download size is slightly larger than the size of the game.
This happens because Steam will download your chosen Steam Proton version with this game as well. After the download is complete, simply click the "Play" button.
Rip through hostile alien worlds, harvest mutant body parts mid-combat, and adapt faster than the enemies before they overwhelm you. Every alien you harvest gives you new body parts with unique powers — triple-jump legs, turret-dropping torsos, grenade-launching turkey heads.
Welcome to SWAPMEAT – the co-op action roguelike shooter where every kill makes you stronger... and stranger. Rip through hostile alien worlds, harvest mutant body parts mid-combat, and adapt faster than the enemies before they overwhelm you.
Rangus Meats is a galaxy-spanning megacorp whose innovations may or may not have triggered a galactic crisis, infesting worlds with aliens, mutants, and murderous robots.
Your job:
Drop onto hostile planets teeming with absurd enemy oddities
Complete Prime Directives and collect meat samples
Swap out your body parts in real time
Survive long enough to receive your employee evaluation
Every alien you harvest gives you new body parts with unique powers — triple-jump legs, turret-dropping torsos, grenade-launching turkey heads. Each fleshy extremity changes how you fight. Time is never on your side. The pressure never stops. Learn to live in the chaos or get — quite literally — torn apart by it.
Rip, swap, and mutate mid-combat. Every limb and extremity you graft changes your strategy instantly. Rapid adaptation isn't optional — it's a matter of survival. There are over 3,000 meat combinations available to players. Every part you graft changes your strategy instantly.
Adaptation isn't optional — it's a matter of survival. Equip Squat Daddy legs to jump and butt-slam enemies, or an Octo Swirl head that shoots in all directions, or a Stellar Chef torso that grants barrier shields to your squad.
While roguelikes like Risk of Rain 2 and co-op shooters like Helldivers 2 inspired our developers, the speed of core combat harks back to some of our favorite games, such as Quake 3, Serious Sam, and Overwatch. SWAPMEAT forces improvisation in ways we haven’t seen in traditional roguelikes — you work with what drops and learn to thrive in unpredictability, while under constant siege by alien weirdos.
Waves of screwball enemies never stop coming. You dodge, shoot, and swap your way through escalating chaos while racing against time to complete objectives and bring back vital Meat Cores for Carl’s ongoing Smart Meat™ experimentations.
Solo or squad, SWAPMEAT's got something for everyone. Rip through the galaxy alone, or summon your bravest buddies to face the chaos together. With dynamically scaling difficulty, the game gets harder when players join and easier when they leave.
Each mission throws new enemies, random events, and unexpected part combinations at you. No two runs are ever the same. Every death teaches you something new.
Bring your research back to HQ and cash it in for weapon unlocks, new perks, and company-approved improvements.
Explore a series of ever-stranger worlds, from an urban speedway thick with hungry mutant speedsters to a planetary cookout overrun by hostile aliens. Battle across bizarre, vivid landscapes strewn with the ruins of galactic capitalism.
