Guide: Installing PLOT! on Linux with Steam Proton

This guide describes how to use Steam Proton to play and run Windows games on your Linux computer. Some games may not work or may break because Steam Proton is still at a very early stage.

1. Activating Steam Proton for Linux:
Proton is integrated into the Steam Client with "Steam Play." To activate proton, go into your steam client and click on Steam in the upper right corner. Then click on settings to open a new window. From here, click on the Steam Play button at the bottom of the panel. Click "Enable Steam Play for Supported Titles."

Alternatively: Go to Steam > Settings > Steam Play and turn on the "Enable Steam Play for Supported Titles" option.

Valve has tested and fixed some Steam titles and you will now be able to play most of them. However, if you want to go further and play titles that even Valve hasn't tested, toggle the "Enable Steam Play for all titles" option.

2. Choose a version
You should use the Steam Proton version recommended by Steam: 3.7-8. This is the most stable version of Steam Proton at the moment.

3. Restart your Steam
After you have successfully activated Steam Proton, click "OK" and Steam will ask you to restart it for the changes to take effect. Restart it. Your computer will now play all of steam's whitelisted games seamlessly.

4. Launch Stardew Valley on Linux:
Before you can use Steam Proton, you must first download the Stardew Valley Windows game from Steam. When you download Stardew Valley for the first time, you will notice that the download size is slightly larger than the size of the game.
This happens because Steam will download your chosen Steam Proton version with this game as well. After the download is complete, simply click the "Play" button.

What is PLOT!? Features and Description

PLOT! - It's got Balls... Bounce around the levels to find The Key, The Lock and finally The Door which leads, inexorably, to more of the same. Avoid the Traps and shoot The Meanies for a chance of collectables, but be quick - you only have 90 seconds!

PLOT! is a solo developed, retro inspired arcade platformer. It has all the hallmarks of an early nineties 16bit title, from frustrating jumps to annoying traps, and pesky enemies to hard earned collectables. It's all here, only this time around it's fully rendered in glorious 3D!

The objective is to complete the levels as fast as possible (there is no points system) and with the highest Star Rating. One Star is awarded for completing the level, two Stars for finishing without losing a life, and three Stars for making it to the end without taking a single hit... Not as easy as it may sound!
A level is completed by first finding The Key, then The Lock, and finally The Door that leads out of one level and into the next.
When you complete all of the levels you are shown an Overall Time - the sum of the fastest times for each level - and an average Star Rating - taken again from the fastest times. You can then also return to individual levels and try to beat your best, just head over to the 'Fastest Times...' section of the Main Menu.

Talking of the Main Menu, you can also try the exciting, fun for all the family mini game - "Hunt the Help Button!"

"Sounds Great, but what's the plot?"
The plot is the big red word on the title screen. This is an old school platform game, convoluted back stories just get in the way of the action.

Keyboard Controls
Move with WASD or the Arrow Keys. Pressing up increases the ball's bounce height and down makes it stop bouncing, useful for rolling under low obstacles or staying on moving platforms.
The Spacebar or Left Mouse Button (in addition to either left or right movement) will shoot in that direction.
Escape to Pause, press again to return or use left / right movement for other options.

Gamepad
Left Stick to move left / right, South (A) to bounce higher and Left Trigger to roll. East (B) or Right Trigger to shoot (as above) and Start to pause / return, with DPad for options.

General
Pressing 'T' (keyboard) or Left Shoulder (gamepad) toggles the ball's trail.

Tips:
You can't destroy the traps! They will 'one shot' you, so best just avoid them... Colliding with a Green Meanie will also result in a sudden demise, but you can shoot them. They sometimes drop a collectable on death. Hearts restore some of your health and gems increase the time you have to complete the level. Crates and Barrels often contain goodies as well. Shoot 'em and try your luck.

There is a Compass in the top right. This indicates the direction to the next objective. It shows where it is, but not necessarily how to get there...

Bottom left are your Vitals. The red ring shows health and the white semi circle indicates time remaining. You start with just 90 seconds!
Inside the orb is elapsed time and current Star Rating. Remaining lives are shown to the left of this.
