Guide: Installing Solitary Cat on Linux with Steam Proton

This guide describes how to use Steam Proton to play and run Windows games on your Linux computer. Some games may not work or may break because Steam Proton is still at a very early stage.

1. Activating Steam Proton for Linux:
Proton is integrated into the Steam Client with "Steam Play." To activate proton, go into your steam client and click on Steam in the upper right corner. Then click on settings to open a new window. From here, click on the Steam Play button at the bottom of the panel. Click "Enable Steam Play for Supported Titles."

Alternatively: Go to Steam > Settings > Steam Play and turn on the "Enable Steam Play for Supported Titles" option.

Valve has tested and fixed some Steam titles and you will now be able to play most of them. However, if you want to go further and play titles that even Valve hasn't tested, toggle the "Enable Steam Play for all titles" option.

2. Choose a version
You should use the Steam Proton version recommended by Steam: 3.7-8. This is the most stable version of Steam Proton at the moment.

3. Restart your Steam
After you have successfully activated Steam Proton, click "OK" and Steam will ask you to restart it for the changes to take effect. Restart it. Your computer will now play all of steam's whitelisted games seamlessly.

4. Launch Stardew Valley on Linux:
Before you can use Steam Proton, you must first download the Stardew Valley Windows game from Steam. When you download Stardew Valley for the first time, you will notice that the download size is slightly larger than the size of the game.
This happens because Steam will download your chosen Steam Proton version with this game as well. After the download is complete, simply click the "Play" button.

The ultimate lightweight solitaire featuring simple yet robust rules for hours of dark-mode fun! Based on Klondike, 40 Thieves, and Bakers Game.

          VICTORY SLOTS

          • The victory slots form the top two rows, and are marked with "A".
          • To win, fill victory slots from same-suit ascending (Ace to King).

          BUFFER SLOTS

          • Under the victory slots are the buffer slots.
          • Buffer slots can hold only one card, and are used as a swap space.

          PLAY SLOTS

          • Under the buffer slots are the play slots, filled with cards.
          • You can draw from, and place cards here to help you win.
          • To place, cards must be ordered same-suit descending (King to Ace).

          ROTATING DECK

          • Under the play slots at the bottom is the rotating deck.
          • Dragging from anywhere that is not a card or UI will rotate the deck.
          • You may also use the mouse wheel.
          • The rotating deck consists of specialized play slots (marked with a pentagon when empty).
          • These specialized slots can only be taken from.
          • If you empty a specialized slot however, it will thereafter behave like a buffer slot.

          GAMEPLAY

          • Drag cards around to play.
          • Tapping a card will have it attempt to move automatically, first to a victory slot, then to a play slot.
          • If no move is found the card will shake no.
          • If multiple moves are found, the card will shake excitedly and the available moves will be highlighted via the cards at the available moves rotating.
          • Pressing and holding a card will try to move it to a buffer slot. Note the progress bar at the top must be full before you can let go.

          UNDO

          • Pressing "nevermind" will undo previous actions.
          • It is recommended to use this strategically, as part of gameplay.
          • You have a maximum of 2 full decks worth of undo's (104 undo's).

          ADDITIONAL NOTES

          • Cards in the play slots will reveal themselves such that 5 cards always show face up (even if you use "nevermind", they will still stay face up, and this is by design).
          • Middle click or press spacebar to reverse the rotating deck's direction of travel.

          COLORS

          • You may change the main card color, per-suit, of the cards from the main menu's "Card Colors" section.
          • You may change the hue and saturation per-suit to your liking.
