This guide describes how to use Steam Proton to play and run Windows games on your Linux computer. Some games may not work or may break because Steam Proton is still at a very early stage.
1. Activating Steam Proton for Linux:
Proton is integrated into the Steam Client with "Steam Play." To activate proton, go into your steam client and click on Steam in the upper right corner. Then click on settings to open a new window. From here, click on the Steam Play button at the bottom of the panel. Click "Enable Steam Play for Supported Titles."
Alternatively: Go to Steam > Settings > Steam Play and turn on the "Enable Steam Play for Supported Titles" option.
Valve has tested and fixed some Steam titles and you will now be able to play most of them. However, if you want to go further and play titles that even Valve hasn't tested, toggle the "Enable Steam Play for all titles" option.
2. Choose a version
You should use the Steam Proton version recommended by Steam: 3.7-8. This is the most stable version of Steam Proton at the moment.
3. Restart your Steam
After you have successfully activated Steam Proton, click "OK" and Steam will ask you to restart it for the changes to take effect. Restart it. Your computer will now play all of steam's whitelisted games seamlessly.
4. Launch Stardew Valley on Linux:
Before you can use Steam Proton, you must first download the Stardew Valley Windows game from Steam. When you download Stardew Valley for the first time, you will notice that the download size is slightly larger than the size of the game.
This happens because Steam will download your chosen Steam Proton version with this game as well. After the download is complete, simply click the "Play" button.
You awaken in a strange, floating room in another dimension. To escape, you'll need to team up with an energetic goddess and a mysterious girl just beyond the wall. Together, you’ll unravel the secrets of this surreal space in this adventure game. Which door will you choose—and where will it lead?
■About Sp(L/R)ite
SP(L/R)ITE is an adventure game where you must escape a series of mysterious floating rooms in another dimension.
Uncover the secrets hidden within each room as you collaborate with an unnervingly energetic goddess and a neighbor you can only speak to through the wall.
What lies beyond the final door? That’s for you to decide.
■Beyond the Truth Lies a Choice...
You wake with a strange feeling—something isn't right.
The ceiling, the room… they seem familiar. But your sense of smell is gone.
Confused, you're soon greeted by Akrida, a self-proclaimed goddess of fate.
She tells you that you've been chosen to participate in a battle to the death.
Your opponent? A stranger—someone you can only hear through the wall.
It's a race to escape this mysterious dimension…or so you’re told.
Jean, the voice on the other side, is suspicious of Akrida and urges you to work with her to find a way out together.
Surprisingly, Akrida doesn’t resist. In fact, she encourages cooperation, claiming you can escape by any means necessary.
As you continue to interact with Jean—and receive occasional guidance from Akrida—you slowly begin to uncover the truth you once forgot.
■Unravel the Story, One Puzzle at a Time...
Sp(L/R)ite unfolds within a locked, crumbling house—an isolated, otherworldly space born from an unforeseen tangling of the “threads of fate” spun by Akrida.
To move from one room to the next, you’ll need to gather scattered items and piece together a mysterious picture—the key to your escape—guided by clues from Jean and Akrida.
With each image you complete, Jean’s and your lost memories begin to surface, slowly revealing your intertwined pasts and drawing you closer to the story’s end.
What future lies ahead for you two? That depends on the choices you make.
Sp(L/R)ite is a short adventure game project created by Tricore, an indie developer based in Fukuoka, Japan.
