Guide: Installing Small Kingdoms Prologue on Linux with Steam Proton

This guide describes how to use Steam Proton to play and run Windows games on your Linux computer. Some games may not work or may break because Steam Proton is still at a very early stage.

1. Activating Steam Proton for Linux:
Proton is integrated into the Steam Client with "Steam Play." To activate proton, go into your steam client and click on Steam in the upper right corner. Then click on settings to open a new window. From here, click on the Steam Play button at the bottom of the panel. Click "Enable Steam Play for Supported Titles."

Alternatively: Go to Steam > Settings > Steam Play and turn on the "Enable Steam Play for Supported Titles" option.

Valve has tested and fixed some Steam titles and you will now be able to play most of them. However, if you want to go further and play titles that even Valve hasn't tested, toggle the "Enable Steam Play for all titles" option.

2. Choose a version
You should use the Steam Proton version recommended by Steam: 3.7-8. This is the most stable version of Steam Proton at the moment.

3. Restart your Steam
After you have successfully activated Steam Proton, click "OK" and Steam will ask you to restart it for the changes to take effect. Restart it. Your computer will now play all of steam's whitelisted games seamlessly.

4. Launch Stardew Valley on Linux:
Before you can use Steam Proton, you must first download the Stardew Valley Windows game from Steam. When you download Stardew Valley for the first time, you will notice that the download size is slightly larger than the size of the game.
This happens because Steam will download your chosen Steam Proton version with this game as well. After the download is complete, simply click the "Play" button.

Rule a small fantasy kingdom and conquer your rival as you build up your cities and armies on the world map and command your troops on the battlefield

Small Kingdoms is a streamlined grand strategy and real-time strategy game, the Small Kingdoms Prologue is a free introductory version to the full game with a single campaign and a smaller number of buildings and units

The Prologue comes with a single campaign map which is a small world consisting of several islands with 2 playable kingdoms and each kingdom having 3 cities. The main game allows more kingdoms and cities on procedurally generated campaign maps

In the Prologue the two kingdoms are very much alike. In the main game, you choose to play as one of several kingdoms that each has their own set of islands and cities. The main kingdoms all have similar unit types, but each has their own unique flavour, with strengths and weaknesses for you to use strategically

Build up your cities by constructing buildings, gathering resources and training units for your garrison from the world map. Will your cities be economic powerhouses producing loads of resources? Or will they be military training camps designed to get a variety of new units into your armies?

Train units for your armies on the world map, then send them into battle and command them on the battlefield to achieve victory in siege and field combat. Will you build a balanced army capable of engaging in close quarters or at a distance? Or will you focus on ranged units to strike down the enemy from afar?

Techs are unlocked in the Prologue, allowing a subset of the units and buildings you fill find in the main game. The techs focus on unlocking and upgrading new buildings and units, as well as enabling automatically spawned units like siege weapons when besieging a city so you don't have to drag them along with your army
