Guide: Installing Light City District on Linux with Steam Proton

This guide describes how to use Steam Proton to play and run Windows games on your Linux computer. Some games may not work or may break because Steam Proton is still at a very early stage.

1. Activating Steam Proton for Linux:
Proton is integrated into the Steam Client with "Steam Play." To activate proton, go into your steam client and click on Steam in the upper right corner. Then click on settings to open a new window. From here, click on the Steam Play button at the bottom of the panel. Click "Enable Steam Play for Supported Titles."

Alternatively: Go to Steam > Settings > Steam Play and turn on the "Enable Steam Play for Supported Titles" option.

Valve has tested and fixed some Steam titles and you will now be able to play most of them. However, if you want to go further and play titles that even Valve hasn't tested, toggle the "Enable Steam Play for all titles" option.

2. Choose a version
You should use the Steam Proton version recommended by Steam: 3.7-8. This is the most stable version of Steam Proton at the moment.

3. Restart your Steam
After you have successfully activated Steam Proton, click "OK" and Steam will ask you to restart it for the changes to take effect. Restart it. Your computer will now play all of steam's whitelisted games seamlessly.

4. Launch Stardew Valley on Linux:
Before you can use Steam Proton, you must first download the Stardew Valley Windows game from Steam. When you download Stardew Valley for the first time, you will notice that the download size is slightly larger than the size of the game.
This happens because Steam will download your chosen Steam Proton version with this game as well. After the download is complete, simply click the "Play" button.

What is Light City District? Features and Description

A Game And Watch-like game with a cinema noire story, set in an openworld game in real time.

INTRO

Light City District is home to Agent Null. But a telephone call will drag him out of his office and into the bustling streets. He will have to help people along the way, play with kids, and know all the characters in this strange city.

Main idea behind this game

What if all the 80's Game and Watch like systems were part of the same world?
That is the idea behind Light City District.
To create a huge open world game, in realtime, with interaction with all the characters of that world, secondary missions, while embracing all the artistic limitations of those old 80's games before even 8 bit games were invented.

This is the FIRST chapter of this series. Hope people like it and I can do more.

All the main elements of the game were created as the old Game and Watch systems were: with paper and pencil. Everything taking into account that nothing can overlap, becuase it had to be able to be created as a liquid cristal display.
All the scenes have two layers: the moving characters an dthe coloured background.
This is to imitate the way most of these systems got some colour, with transparent films for the backgrounds and polarised films for the moving elements.
We are even imitating the small shadows that the elements project in real physical systems.

Main features:

  • Openworld exploration
  • Feel again the simplicity of GameAndWatch like games.
  • Character conversations and reactions change with the time of day
  • Pure arcade action
  • Puzzle solving
  • Secondary missions.
  • A Cinema Noire inspired story.
  • Autosaving in each scene which allows a pick a few minutes for play and continue later.

You can play it with your keyboard or controller.
