Guide: Installing Desktop Mark on Linux with Steam Proton

This guide describes how to use Steam Proton to play and run Windows games on your Linux computer. Some games may not work or may break because Steam Proton is still at a very early stage.

1. Activating Steam Proton for Linux:
Proton is integrated into the Steam Client with "Steam Play." To activate proton, go into your steam client and click on Steam in the upper right corner. Then click on settings to open a new window. From here, click on the Steam Play button at the bottom of the panel. Click "Enable Steam Play for Supported Titles."

Alternatively: Go to Steam > Settings > Steam Play and turn on the "Enable Steam Play for Supported Titles" option.

Valve has tested and fixed some Steam titles and you will now be able to play most of them. However, if you want to go further and play titles that even Valve hasn't tested, toggle the "Enable Steam Play for all titles" option.

2. Choose a version
You should use the Steam Proton version recommended by Steam: 3.7-8. This is the most stable version of Steam Proton at the moment.

3. Restart your Steam
After you have successfully activated Steam Proton, click "OK" and Steam will ask you to restart it for the changes to take effect. Restart it. Your computer will now play all of steam's whitelisted games seamlessly.

4. Launch Stardew Valley on Linux:
Before you can use Steam Proton, you must first download the Stardew Valley Windows game from Steam. When you download Stardew Valley for the first time, you will notice that the download size is slightly larger than the size of the game.
This happens because Steam will download your chosen Steam Proton version with this game as well. After the download is complete, simply click the "Play" button.

What is Desktop Mark? Features and Description

Desktop Mark is a simple minigame-centric idler revolving around the goofy character of Mark, a smiley that bounces all around your screen. Every so often, Mark hits the corner and prompts you to procrastinate & have some fun with Mark.

And that's about it. Every time he hits a side, he rebounds, and speeds up just a little bit.

Sometimes, however, he hits the exact corner in a satisfying bounce. That's a signal to stop the work you're supposed to be doing, and play a little game with Mark.

Hit the corner? Procrastinate easily with 8 small minigames that are just fun enough to take your mind off your work.

From classics like Snake, sneaking through mazes, skydiving or beating up your brother, Desktop Mark has just what you need to scratch your entertainment itch without hooking you with tons of options.

Every minigame earns you Mark bucks, which you can then use to customise Mark with over 20 Marks, 25 hats and 10 corner-hit sounds.

Make Mark your own, earn achievements and play games. Yeah, that's Desktop Mark.

FAQ

  • Does he bounce around your real computer? Yes! He's always on top and transparent, so you can do anything else whilst he bounces.
  • How often does he hit the corner? Depending on what you've got the acceleration set to, around every 15 minutes.
  • Do I need to have a corner hit to play minigames? Nope! For a small amount of Mark bucks, you can play any minigame at any time, and even profit!
  • How many hours of gameplay will I get? As it's a cheap game, don't expect hours of content. Depending on how you play, you can have Mark as a simple distraction widget or grind minigames to buy every costume you can.
