Guide: Installing Extreme Volleyball Infernal League on Linux with Steam Proton

This guide describes how to use Steam Proton to play and run Windows games on your Linux computer. Some games may not work or may break because Steam Proton is still at a very early stage.

1. Activating Steam Proton for Linux:
Proton is integrated into the Steam Client with "Steam Play." To activate proton, go into your steam client and click on Steam in the upper right corner. Then click on settings to open a new window. From here, click on the Steam Play button at the bottom of the panel. Click "Enable Steam Play for Supported Titles."

Alternatively: Go to Steam > Settings > Steam Play and turn on the "Enable Steam Play for Supported Titles" option.

Valve has tested and fixed some Steam titles and you will now be able to play most of them. However, if you want to go further and play titles that even Valve hasn't tested, toggle the "Enable Steam Play for all titles" option.

2. Choose a version
You should use the Steam Proton version recommended by Steam: 3.7-8. This is the most stable version of Steam Proton at the moment.

3. Restart your Steam
After you have successfully activated Steam Proton, click "OK" and Steam will ask you to restart it for the changes to take effect. Restart it. Your computer will now play all of steam's whitelisted games seamlessly.

4. Launch Stardew Valley on Linux:
Before you can use Steam Proton, you must first download the Stardew Valley Windows game from Steam. When you download Stardew Valley for the first time, you will notice that the download size is slightly larger than the size of the game.
This happens because Steam will download your chosen Steam Proton version with this game as well. After the download is complete, simply click the "Play" button.

Every millennium the great demon king Azmodean opens a rift to the mortal realm to overtake it. The only way to save the world is by climbing the ranks of his Extreme Volleyball Infernal League! Are you game enough?

Authentic 8-bit graphics and sound!

Extreme Volleyball Infernal League was created for a true 8-bit era console, the SEGA Master System. The Steam version is a faithful port of the original, built to run natively on modern hardware and with Steam integration, but we also bundle the ROM for use with emulators and flash cartridges.

Rules

The demon imposes rules somewhat different from standard volleyball. In this league, players have 5 HP of life. When the ball touches the ground, the player on that side of the net looses life, so be careful not to miss the ball! Items are also spawned during the game to help conquer your opponent. After each round, you get bonus points for your remaining life (1000 per HP) and if your life gauge is still full, a perfect +10000 bonus.

Items

Fire: Throw a fireball to your opponent
Slow: Slows down the opponent for approx. 15 seconds
Shields: Summon a shield for help. (Insurance for one missed ball)
Cloud: Jump a lot higher and fall slower when jump button held.
Sprint shoes: Run faster!
Sticky: The ball sticks to you once! Walk up to the net and do an air jump to smash it!

Controls

Supports Game controllers, and Keyboard. Menus can be navigated using a mouse or touchscreen, but a keyboard or game controller is required to play.
The keyboard ESC key always opens the Pause menu in game and doubles as a Menu Back / Close menu key. For local multiplayer, the controller used to select a 2-player vs. mode match from the menu will assigned to player 1.

If playing with a keyboard in single player modes, or against a player with a game controller, keys are assigned as such:

Move player / menu cursor move: WASD / Arrow keys
Jump / Menu select: Z / F / SPACE / ENTER / PAGE-UP / Numpad 0
Use item / Menu back : X / G / SHIFT / PAGE-DOWN / Numpad 1

When no game controllers are connected, local 2-player matches are still possible. In such cases, 2-player keyboard mode will be automatically enabled when selecting a 2-player vs. mode match. Refer to the in-game 2-player mode information dialog for key mapping info.
