Guide: Installing MEATGUN on Linux with Steam Proton

This guide describes how to use Steam Proton to play and run Windows games on your Linux computer. Some games may not work or may break because Steam Proton is still at a very early stage.

1. Activating Steam Proton for Linux:
Proton is integrated into the Steam Client with "Steam Play." To activate proton, go into your steam client and click on Steam in the upper right corner. Then click on settings to open a new window. From here, click on the Steam Play button at the bottom of the panel. Click "Enable Steam Play for Supported Titles."

Alternatively: Go to Steam > Settings > Steam Play and turn on the "Enable Steam Play for Supported Titles" option.

Valve has tested and fixed some Steam titles and you will now be able to play most of them. However, if you want to go further and play titles that even Valve hasn't tested, toggle the "Enable Steam Play for all titles" option.

2. Choose a version
You should use the Steam Proton version recommended by Steam: 3.7-8. This is the most stable version of Steam Proton at the moment.

3. Restart your Steam
After you have successfully activated Steam Proton, click "OK" and Steam will ask you to restart it for the changes to take effect. Restart it. Your computer will now play all of steam's whitelisted games seamlessly.

4. Launch Stardew Valley on Linux:
Before you can use Steam Proton, you must first download the Stardew Valley Windows game from Steam. When you download Stardew Valley for the first time, you will notice that the download size is slightly larger than the size of the game.
This happens because Steam will download your chosen Steam Proton version with this game as well. After the download is complete, simply click the "Play" button.

What is MEATGUN? Features and Description

The top-down roguelike shooter where your ammunition is edible. Delve into The Facility and fight off hordes of mutant vegetables with your MEATGUN: Shoot meat to damage enemies, and eat meat to heal. Collect various items and combine their effects to become a powerful, veggie-killing machine.

The top-down roguelike shooter where your ammunition is edible.

>> Live, Die, Repeat

This game is a roguelike dungeon crawler, meaning each time you die, you're sent back to the beginning of the game, and each time you're sent back to the beginning, the game changes. The rooms, the enemies, and the items you get are all randomly chosen each time you play, which makes each run a unique experience.

>> A Gun That Shoots Meat

As the name of the game suggests, the player is armed with guns that shoot meat. There are 4 guns to choose from, ranging from a pistol that shoots chicken nuggets to a sniper rifle that shoots sausages. However, the ammo serves a different purpose; because the ammo is meat, you can also eat it to recover health. To succeed, you must use your ammo wisely for both damage and healing.

>> Rally The Troops

Not only are there multiple guns to choose from, but multiple playable characters as well. There are 4 Military Extraction Troopers to choose from, ranging from the Assault Trooper, who can dash quickly to avoid bullets, to the Demolitionist, who can lay down proximity mines. Combine different troopers with different guns to get a new experience on every run.

>> GMO Gone Wrong

As the result of an experiment gone wrong, giant, sentient, radioactive vegetables have taken over The Facility. Your job as a Military Extraction Trooper is to venture into the research facility and wipe out the menace inside. You will fight enemies like broccoli, pea-pods, brussel sprouts and tomatoes, all armed with varying types of guns and weaponry.

>> Upgrade Your Arsenal

Of course, your Meatgun will not be the only weapon you have. Inside the Facility, you will find an item in each room, each one an experimental weapon designed by the Facility's scientists. There are over 30 unique items with differing effects, from hot sauce that burns your enemies to takeout boxes that increase your ammo capacity. Many items' effects combine together in surprising ways. You can even get multiple stacks of each item for a more powerful effect.
