This guide describes how to use Steam Proton to play and run Windows games on your Linux computer. Some games may not work or may break because Steam Proton is still at a very early stage.
1. Activating Steam Proton for Linux:
Proton is integrated into the Steam Client with "Steam Play." To activate proton, go into your steam client and click on Steam in the upper right corner. Then click on settings to open a new window. From here, click on the Steam Play button at the bottom of the panel. Click "Enable Steam Play for Supported Titles."
Alternatively: Go to Steam > Settings > Steam Play and turn on the "Enable Steam Play for Supported Titles" option.
Valve has tested and fixed some Steam titles and you will now be able to play most of them. However, if you want to go further and play titles that even Valve hasn't tested, toggle the "Enable Steam Play for all titles" option.
2. Choose a version
You should use the Steam Proton version recommended by Steam: 3.7-8. This is the most stable version of Steam Proton at the moment.
3. Restart your Steam
After you have successfully activated Steam Proton, click "OK" and Steam will ask you to restart it for the changes to take effect. Restart it. Your computer will now play all of steam's whitelisted games seamlessly.
4. Launch Stardew Valley on Linux:
Before you can use Steam Proton, you must first download the Stardew Valley Windows game from Steam. When you download Stardew Valley for the first time, you will notice that the download size is slightly larger than the size of the game.
This happens because Steam will download your chosen Steam Proton version with this game as well. After the download is complete, simply click the "Play" button.

Elise Berrie
Former tightrope walker marked by her past, determined to return to the circus world. Intelligent, sensitive, and stubborn, she will be your eyes in a company where no one seems to tell the full truth.
Gerhard Leisser
Charismatic director of the Moon Circus. Elegant, courteous, and deeply unsettling, he has built a dazzling reputation around his show. There always seems to be something hidden behind his smile.
Eritrea
The enigmatic circus seer. Her calm voice and piercing gaze make it feel like she sees beyond the obvious. You’ll never know if her words are guidance… or a threat.
Beatrice and Liam Selander
Acrobats barely 16 years old. Twins with clear signs of a lack of empathy and a disturbing dangerousness. They seem to share a bond that makes them much closer than rationality would allow.
Rex Rødland
A ghostly biker figure. No one knows his true face, much less his intentions. His mere presence is enough to alter the atmosphere and sow distrust.
Niko Roig
Professional escapist. Obsessed with leaving this place before it’s too late. Melancholic and silent, tragedy seems to follow him wherever he goes.
Zsófia Ács
Knife thrower, marked by guilt after killing her partner during a performance. She is willing to do anything to ease her emotional burden.
Jarko Riemi
Renowned musician and composer. More obsessed with protocol and courtesy than with his own happiness. His presence is too reassuring; being with him makes anger seem irrational.
Alina Karlova
Beast tamer. Strong, cold, and hard to read. She believes every human can be tamed… including you. She won’t hesitate to make you suffer if you disobey her orders.
Nuria Tubella
Circus dancer. Fragile, complex, and deeply affected by an accident that disfigured her face before Elise’s arrival. She lives anchored in the past and seems to want to reclaim her former beauty.
