Guide: Installing Mind The Pipes! on Linux with Steam Proton

This guide describes how to use Steam Proton to play and run Windows games on your Linux computer. Some games may not work or may break because Steam Proton is still at a very early stage.

1. Activating Steam Proton for Linux:
Proton is integrated into the Steam Client with "Steam Play." To activate proton, go into your steam client and click on Steam in the upper right corner. Then click on settings to open a new window. From here, click on the Steam Play button at the bottom of the panel. Click "Enable Steam Play for Supported Titles."

Alternatively: Go to Steam > Settings > Steam Play and turn on the "Enable Steam Play for Supported Titles" option.

Valve has tested and fixed some Steam titles and you will now be able to play most of them. However, if you want to go further and play titles that even Valve hasn't tested, toggle the "Enable Steam Play for all titles" option.

2. Choose a version
You should use the Steam Proton version recommended by Steam: 3.7-8. This is the most stable version of Steam Proton at the moment.

3. Restart your Steam
After you have successfully activated Steam Proton, click "OK" and Steam will ask you to restart it for the changes to take effect. Restart it. Your computer will now play all of steam's whitelisted games seamlessly.

4. Launch Stardew Valley on Linux:
Before you can use Steam Proton, you must first download the Stardew Valley Windows game from Steam. When you download Stardew Valley for the first time, you will notice that the download size is slightly larger than the size of the game.
This happens because Steam will download your chosen Steam Proton version with this game as well. After the download is complete, simply click the "Play" button.

What is Mind The Pipes!? Features and Description

Equipped with a highly advanced protective suit, the nameless hero in "Mind The Pipes!" embarks on a dangerous journey to prevent the bankruptcy of his employer. Concentration and quick thinking are essential for survival in this game!

In this 2D platformer, the path is not just the destination, but also the enemy!

Equipped with a high-tech protective suit, you must jump from pipe to pipe in 20 levels to prevent the downfall of your employer...BUT BEWARE: The pipes you move on contain the most dangerous liquids known to mankind!

If you want to survive, you should follow this rule: Never, and I mean NEVER, touch a pipe whose color matches your protective suit!

You can choose the difficulty level yourself. Would you rather have a "relaxed" adventure or go through hell?

Gameplay Information:

  • The player character can run, jump, and cling to walls
  • The central element of this game is the ability to change the color of the player character. The options are red, green, and blue
  • The player character may only touch pipes that have a different color than their own. Otherwise, they die instantly
  • If the player character dies, they are immediately reset to the last checkpoint
  • The platforms have (at least) one of five different colors (white, red, green, blue, black). The player character is safe on a white platform, but touching a black platform always leads to death
  • In this game, you will (almost) not find "regular" enemies

Game Modes

  • Story Mode: You will learn the "why" of your adventure and traverse every level one after another. Can you save the company?
  • Free Play Mode: You can play any level on "Easy" or "Not Easy" difficulty. Your best runs will be saved, so you can compete with your friends...or yourself

Difficulties

  • Easy: This is the recommended difficulty if you haven't played this game before...and / or if you don't like pain...
  • Not Easy: If you're looking for a challenge...or pain...this difficulty is for you!
  • Insane: Only recommended for masters of this game...or if you are really into pain...
