Guide: Installing Under The Map on Linux with Steam Proton

This guide describes how to use Steam Proton to play and run Windows games on your Linux computer. Some games may not work or may break because Steam Proton is still at a very early stage.

1. Activating Steam Proton for Linux:
Proton is integrated into the Steam Client with "Steam Play." To activate proton, go into your steam client and click on Steam in the upper right corner. Then click on settings to open a new window. From here, click on the Steam Play button at the bottom of the panel. Click "Enable Steam Play for Supported Titles."

Alternatively: Go to Steam > Settings > Steam Play and turn on the "Enable Steam Play for Supported Titles" option.

Valve has tested and fixed some Steam titles and you will now be able to play most of them. However, if you want to go further and play titles that even Valve hasn't tested, toggle the "Enable Steam Play for all titles" option.

2. Choose a version
You should use the Steam Proton version recommended by Steam: 3.7-8. This is the most stable version of Steam Proton at the moment.

3. Restart your Steam
After you have successfully activated Steam Proton, click "OK" and Steam will ask you to restart it for the changes to take effect. Restart it. Your computer will now play all of steam's whitelisted games seamlessly.

4. Launch Stardew Valley on Linux:
Before you can use Steam Proton, you must first download the Stardew Valley Windows game from Steam. When you download Stardew Valley for the first time, you will notice that the download size is slightly larger than the size of the game.
This happens because Steam will download your chosen Steam Proton version with this game as well. After the download is complete, simply click the "Play" button.

What is Under The Map? Features and Description

A Horror Survival Game where you enter a backroom-style area trying to fight off entities and escape the many many levels. Will you dare to play?

Under the Map is a first person Horror Survival game based on the backroom-style lore featured among the popular YouTube trend. Featuring lore with multiple levels of the backrooms and minigames.

What makes us stand out?
- Immersive experience (This game uses the latest Unreal Engine 5 technology with top level graphical and lighting software such as lumen, almost never seen before in other horror games!)

- Good for our budget we spent (The team working on this have years of experience and have used the latest and up do date technology in Unreal Engine 5 to get what we have to offer!)

- The backrooms style (This isn't just another backroom game with 1 level and minimal development, we have multiple levels and minigames added with hundreds of hours spent on the development and have done everything efficiently. We are not in this for the sole purpose of profit.

- Various updates (We are working on ensuring that over months there will be frequent level updates and new minigames for people to explore and enjoy)

Gameplay:
You start as an individual doing the ordinary work day 9-5 wishing you could be home and then all of a sudden things take a turn. You glitch into the very reality of life and wake up in a mysterious-thrilling looking area. You take the elevator to another level which then things go from bad to worse. An entity with this creepy smile appears, you run for your life and run through a door hoping this "thing" doesn't attack you. In going through the door you enter this mono-yellow area with endless objects around you. But that entity is there too. Should you make it through the level you will find it is almost endless with levels upon levels. One thing that stands out is you notice that there is some traces of people... is the Government involved? Will you ever get out? Play through the levels and find out!

Features
- Immersive Experience (We have jump scares for each individual entity along with the best and latest detail to fit a horror game)
- Minigames
- Inventory system with workable objects
- Horror-style environment
- Multiple levels
- Plenty of hours of gameplay
- Repetitive levels (procedural levels may be coming in the future)
- THIS IS NOT A WALKING SIMULATOR! We want people to know we are committed and will do our best to ensure ultimate gameplay rather then continuous walking
