Guide: Installing Driftwood on Linux with Steam Proton

This guide describes how to use Steam Proton to play and run Windows games on your Linux computer. Some games may not work or may break because Steam Proton is still at a very early stage.

1. Activating Steam Proton for Linux:
Proton is integrated into the Steam Client with "Steam Play." To activate proton, go into your steam client and click on Steam in the upper right corner. Then click on settings to open a new window. From here, click on the Steam Play button at the bottom of the panel. Click "Enable Steam Play for Supported Titles."

Alternatively: Go to Steam > Settings > Steam Play and turn on the "Enable Steam Play for Supported Titles" option.

Valve has tested and fixed some Steam titles and you will now be able to play most of them. However, if you want to go further and play titles that even Valve hasn't tested, toggle the "Enable Steam Play for all titles" option.

2. Choose a version
You should use the Steam Proton version recommended by Steam: 3.7-8. This is the most stable version of Steam Proton at the moment.

3. Restart your Steam
After you have successfully activated Steam Proton, click "OK" and Steam will ask you to restart it for the changes to take effect. Restart it. Your computer will now play all of steam's whitelisted games seamlessly.

4. Launch Stardew Valley on Linux:
Before you can use Steam Proton, you must first download the Stardew Valley Windows game from Steam. When you download Stardew Valley for the first time, you will notice that the download size is slightly larger than the size of the game.
This happens because Steam will download your chosen Steam Proton version with this game as well. After the download is complete, simply click the "Play" button.

What is Driftwood? Features and Description

A game about high-speed downhill longboarding and a sloth named Eddy. Carve up the mountainside as you drift through the beautiful landscape, and find the perfect balance of speed and control.

You think sloths are slow? Well, Eddy is here to prove you wrong.

In Driftwood, you’ll experience high-speed downhill longboarding as an aerodynamic sloth. Drifting is the name of the game, as it’ll help you strike the perfect balance between speed and control. Drift through tight corners to avoid collision with cars and obstacles, and perform wicked tricks as you take in the beautiful landscape around you. These tricks will help you score points, which will unlock new boards that can be combined with various wheels for diverse skating styles.

  • Dream of skating as a sloth? Look no further – Driftwood lets you enjoy flowy longboarding as Eddy, who will acquire new boards, wheels, and clothes that will enhance the experience.
  • Race through beautiful scenery with relaxing music as the backdrop. Focus on vibes and tricks – Driftwood has no story campaign or obligations.
  • Immerse yourself in a contained world – Driftwood is not an open-world game; it’s a focused, minimalist experience.
  • Fun in solo or competitive – Driftwood allows you to skate on your own, beat personal challenges, and reach new milestones, or compare your runs in online leaderboards.
  • Travel to newly unlocked tracks with your van – Driftwood has several locations for you to skate and drift to your heart’s content.

We’re a small team consisting of just one artist and one programmer. We’ve set out to make a game that provides an intense downhill longboarding experience without much fluff, just a focus on drifting and flow. While there are no freestyle skateboarding tricks in Driftwood, we hope you enjoy the content in our game!

User Reviews

“Remember that wonderful TikTok of the dude longboarding and listening to Fleetwood Mac? What if someone took the vibes of that video, built a game around it, and then replaced the human with a cool sloth? Well, that’s basically Driftwood (...)”
