Guide: Installing Bank Tycoon on Linux with Steam Proton

This guide describes how to use Steam Proton to play and run Windows games on your Linux computer. Some games may not work or may break because Steam Proton is still at a very early stage.

1. Activating Steam Proton for Linux:
Proton is integrated into the Steam Client with "Steam Play." To activate proton, go into your steam client and click on Steam in the upper right corner. Then click on settings to open a new window. From here, click on the Steam Play button at the bottom of the panel. Click "Enable Steam Play for Supported Titles."

Alternatively: Go to Steam > Settings > Steam Play and turn on the "Enable Steam Play for Supported Titles" option.

Valve has tested and fixed some Steam titles and you will now be able to play most of them. However, if you want to go further and play titles that even Valve hasn't tested, toggle the "Enable Steam Play for all titles" option.

2. Choose a version
You should use the Steam Proton version recommended by Steam: 3.7-8. This is the most stable version of Steam Proton at the moment.

3. Restart your Steam
After you have successfully activated Steam Proton, click "OK" and Steam will ask you to restart it for the changes to take effect. Restart it. Your computer will now play all of steam's whitelisted games seamlessly.

4. Launch Stardew Valley on Linux:
Before you can use Steam Proton, you must first download the Stardew Valley Windows game from Steam. When you download Stardew Valley for the first time, you will notice that the download size is slightly larger than the size of the game.
This happens because Steam will download your chosen Steam Proton version with this game as well. After the download is complete, simply click the "Play" button.

What is Bank Tycoon? Features and Description

In a world where banks control countries, finances and armies, manage your bank and army to dominate the world. Based on actual banking principles, create relationships and strategies to manage finances and armies and lead your bank in turn-based grid game play

Imagine you're a bank executive, managing finances and creating strategies to dominate the world. Is that enough? What if you also had control of a country's army and could declare war and invade countries?

In Bank Tycoon you have both financial and military control but with great power comes responsibility. Will you risk shortages in your country, a rebellious population and a falling bank share price as you embark on a journey of global domination?

Bank Tycoon is a 3D turn-based simulator on a grid where the gameplay focuses on the tactics and strategies needed to take over countries through financial management or war.

  • The world is made up of 20 countries that have differing dependencies, industries and roles
  • Your home country has your Head Office and main bank
  • You have 1 bank executive character, the Chief Operating Officer (COO) who :
    • manages finances
    • commands characters and travels to countries to create financial relationships
    • is at risk of imprisonment or kidnapping when travelling
  • You have an army to command, to free an imprisoned executive or invade countries
  • Your decisions and natural disasters have consequences for trade partners :
    • A natural disaster like a flood in an agricultural based country may cause food shortages
    • Your investments help economies
    • Wars impact industries and economies
  • Open offices in countries to unlock strategies for financial expansion
  • Make decisions that influence your bank's share price
  • Manage costs per turn as offices, wars and armies are expensive

  • Create relationships and offices in other countries
  • Tactically move characters across the grid and into countries
  • Protect the COO
  • Manage finances and profits as war and office expansions are expensive
  • Monitor events for profitable opportunities and disasters that may cost you money
  • Create money for expansion and to fund your army
  • Upgrade offices to create branch networks and Ad campaigns to increase your market share
  • Control your armies and provide tactics as they invade and attack countries
  • Use spies for industrial espionage and war

  • Every character has a turn and can be moved to a grid tile only on their turn
  • Enemy soldiers move automatically on their turn and only inside their country
  • All friendly characters except the Chief Operating Officer (COO) spawn on request
  • Characters have specific roles, abilities and costs per move
  • COO - controls the bank and issues orders to other units
  • Soldiers - fight in countries where war is declared
  • Medics - can restore health to any unit
  • Spies - perform industrial espionage and attack enemy units
  • Enemy Soldiers - attack any unit in their country if war is declared

Bank Tycoon is based on real life banking practices for credit management and international banking :

  • Correspondent relationships between countries
  • Credit creation, interest rates and debt management
  • Foreign Exchange accounts for money transfers
