Guide: Installing Isle of Arrows on Linux with Steam Proton

This guide describes how to use Steam Proton to play and run Windows games on your Linux computer. Some games may not work or may break because Steam Proton is still at a very early stage.

1. Activating Steam Proton for Linux:
Proton is integrated into the Steam Client with "Steam Play." To activate proton, go into your steam client and click on Steam in the upper right corner. Then click on settings to open a new window. From here, click on the Steam Play button at the bottom of the panel. Click "Enable Steam Play for Supported Titles."

Alternatively: Go to Steam > Settings > Steam Play and turn on the "Enable Steam Play for Supported Titles" option.

Valve has tested and fixed some Steam titles and you will now be able to play most of them. However, if you want to go further and play titles that even Valve hasn't tested, toggle the "Enable Steam Play for all titles" option.

2. Choose a version
You should use the Steam Proton version recommended by Steam: 3.7-8. This is the most stable version of Steam Proton at the moment.

3. Restart your Steam
After you have successfully activated Steam Proton, click "OK" and Steam will ask you to restart it for the changes to take effect. Restart it. Your computer will now play all of steam's whitelisted games seamlessly.

4. Launch Stardew Valley on Linux:
Before you can use Steam Proton, you must first download the Stardew Valley Windows game from Steam. When you download Stardew Valley for the first time, you will notice that the download size is slightly larger than the size of the game.
This happens because Steam will download your chosen Steam Proton version with this game as well. After the download is complete, simply click the "Play" button.

Isle of Arrows is a fusion of board game and tower defense, in which you place randomly drawn tiles to build defenses on an ever-growing piece of land.

  • Tile-Placement meets Tower Defense: Isle of Arrows is a unique blend of genres that adds a new strategic puzzle element to the Tower Defense formula.

Message from the developer: RNG in Isle of Arrows

Isle of Arrows offers near endless replayability by combining Tower Defense with random tile drawing mechanics and roguelike elements. This requires you to plan ahead, but also adapt your strategy each turn. Consider the placement of each tile carefully!

The order and type of tiles is randomly generated, but you are guaranteed to draw set amount of towers, paths, and buildings every X tiles. This mimics the luck of the draw mechanics of many board games and is what makes Isle of Arrows unique.

Gameplay

Each round, you place randomly drawn tiles on the isle. Spending coins allows you to skip a tile. When you're ready, start the next enemy wave and watch your placed defenses in action.

Towers attack the invaders. Roads build out the path the enemies walk on. Flags extend the isle, giving you more space to build. Gardens reward you with coins. Taverns boost all adjacent archery towers. And so on.

Features

  • 3 game Modes: Campaign, Gauntlet, Daily Defense
  • 3 themed campaigns that each have their own unique set of tiles
  • 4 guilds that each have their own playstyle
  • 70+ tiles
  • 75+ bonus cards and relics
  • 10+ events that can help or hinder you
  • 10+ game modifiers
  • 9 Puzzle style achievements

Randomly drawn bonus cards give access to resources, upgrades, and buffs.

User Reviews

“I’m in the mood for good, clean tower defense, and Isle of Arrows — from Hitman GO and Lara Croft GO creative director Daniel Lutz — could easily be it.”
Destructoid

“Like all of Lutz’s previous games, both independent and as part of larger development companies, there is an air of sophistication to Isle of Arrows in terms of visuals, UI, and even the gameplay concept itself.”
