Guide: Installing In The End on Linux with Steam Proton

This guide describes how to use Steam Proton to play and run Windows games on your Linux computer. Some games may not work or may break because Steam Proton is still at a very early stage.

1. Activating Steam Proton for Linux:
Proton is integrated into the Steam Client with "Steam Play." To activate proton, go into your steam client and click on Steam in the upper right corner. Then click on settings to open a new window. From here, click on the Steam Play button at the bottom of the panel. Click "Enable Steam Play for Supported Titles."

Alternatively: Go to Steam > Settings > Steam Play and turn on the "Enable Steam Play for Supported Titles" option.

Valve has tested and fixed some Steam titles and you will now be able to play most of them. However, if you want to go further and play titles that even Valve hasn't tested, toggle the "Enable Steam Play for all titles" option.

2. Choose a version
You should use the Steam Proton version recommended by Steam: 3.7-8. This is the most stable version of Steam Proton at the moment.

3. Restart your Steam
After you have successfully activated Steam Proton, click "OK" and Steam will ask you to restart it for the changes to take effect. Restart it. Your computer will now play all of steam's whitelisted games seamlessly.

4. Launch Stardew Valley on Linux:
Before you can use Steam Proton, you must first download the Stardew Valley Windows game from Steam. When you download Stardew Valley for the first time, you will notice that the download size is slightly larger than the size of the game.
This happens because Steam will download your chosen Steam Proton version with this game as well. After the download is complete, simply click the "Play" button.

What is In The End? Features and Description

Survive waves of the dead, wave after wave, each one longer and more challenging. There are 100 waves, but with the infected's strength and durability increasing by wave, it is extremely difficult to reach the final wave. So good luck, and give it your best.

Features:

Your dropped into a map, given 2 guns, which you must use to fight almost endless waves of the dead, but as you progress wave by wave, getting temporary perks dropped by zombies to help you along the way, you will start to think you have it under control... As you get higher in waves, you will notice zombies getting faster and stronger, and the weapons you started with no longer have much affect against the dead, so its time to upgrade. After you have shot, slashed, and blown your way through enough zombies, you will have built up some cash, so its time to look for the mystery crate. The crate will give you a random weapon for a cost, but remember you only have 1 minute between rounds to look for the crate, which may not be in the same location as the last match, so be quick, and don't get trapped.

By the time you have your desired weapons and strategy in place, it will be about time for a change of scenery, Night time. As your game progresses you will find it getting dark, which will limit your visibility, so make sure to turn on your flashlight. You may also find the weather changing, like thunderstorms and rain, which will make it almost impossible to hear the zombies, so remember to keep moving and always watch your back.

More features:

You can toggle between third and first person.

Look out for orange containers placed on the map, which explode when shot.

As you kill zombies, watch out for dropped perks, like instant kill, ammo, health packs, and a nuke, which kills all spawned zombies.

Don't run out of ammo, because you will find it very difficult to melee a zombie without getting hit back, so use your grenades and the explosives placed around the map to conserve.

Please refer to the "Why Early Access?" section for plans or goals for the game.
