Guide: Installing UZO on Linux with Steam Proton

This guide describes how to use Steam Proton to play and run Windows games on your Linux computer. Some games may not work or may break because Steam Proton is still at a very early stage.

1. Activating Steam Proton for Linux:
Proton is integrated into the Steam Client with "Steam Play." To activate proton, go into your steam client and click on Steam in the upper right corner. Then click on settings to open a new window. From here, click on the Steam Play button at the bottom of the panel. Click "Enable Steam Play for Supported Titles."

Alternatively: Go to Steam > Settings > Steam Play and turn on the "Enable Steam Play for Supported Titles" option.

Valve has tested and fixed some Steam titles and you will now be able to play most of them. However, if you want to go further and play titles that even Valve hasn't tested, toggle the "Enable Steam Play for all titles" option.

2. Choose a version
You should use the Steam Proton version recommended by Steam: 3.7-8. This is the most stable version of Steam Proton at the moment.

3. Restart your Steam
After you have successfully activated Steam Proton, click "OK" and Steam will ask you to restart it for the changes to take effect. Restart it. Your computer will now play all of steam's whitelisted games seamlessly.

4. Launch Stardew Valley on Linux:
Before you can use Steam Proton, you must first download the Stardew Valley Windows game from Steam. When you download Stardew Valley for the first time, you will notice that the download size is slightly larger than the size of the game.
This happens because Steam will download your chosen Steam Proton version with this game as well. After the download is complete, simply click the "Play" button.

What is UZO? Features and Description

UZO is an abstract strategy board game for two players where one player is the computer. The winner is the first player to manoeuvre their ring from one side of the board to the other. The deployment and capture of individual snakes and ladders enable players to control the dynamics of play.

UZO is a unique board game of logic and tactics.
The player is pitted against the computer.
The rules are simple but there is scope for deep tactical play.
Games can last from two to twenty minutes.

This is a major evolution from traditional snakes and ladders. Where there was once only luck there is now logic and tactics. In UZO, the player(human or computer) who first manoeuvres their ring from one side of the board to the other is the winner. The tactical deployment of individual snakes and ladders enable players to influence the dynamics of play.
The UZO board's central grid of only 25 tiles gives a game with absolutely no slack ..... so from the moment play commences a winning situation is possible within as little as five moves(depending upon setup and a player's skill). The situation on the board can change very quickly and with it the balance of power. One mistake, one lapse of concentration and a player in the lead can suddenly find themselves losing. This is why individual games are often short and brutal, but also why a strong opening move(serve) is so important.
UZO has a steep, but short learning curve. The best way to learn is by observing how the computer plays and following the in-game message display. Full game rules are available at the press of a button, as is the history board showing the last 14 moves played at any stage of the game. The player is notified if repetitive play occurs and advised to change tactics to avoid an impasse(draw).
Games won are registered on a Tug-O-War score board. Whoever wins the Tug-O-War wins the match.
The player's skill is measured after each individual game(green stars) and as a continuous match average(gold stars).
But UZO is designed for casual/light play ....... there are no popups, no in-game purchases. Game performance is recorded and displayed only for the duration of a session so players don't get bogged down with scores. Game sessions are open-ended, which means any number of matches can be played at the player's convenience.
Most players will be able to beat the AI, but it does of course require practice.
Free updates in terms of AI and new skins will be forthcoming. An option allowing players to choose a more tournament style game session may well be introduced depending on demand.
The full rules are contained within the app.
