Guide: Installing Forlorn: The mysteries of Highshadowland on Linux with Steam Proton

This guide describes how to use Steam Proton to play and run Windows games on your Linux computer. Some games may not work or may break because Steam Proton is still at a very early stage.

1. Activating Steam Proton for Linux:
Proton is integrated into the Steam Client with "Steam Play." To activate proton, go into your steam client and click on Steam in the upper right corner. Then click on settings to open a new window. From here, click on the Steam Play button at the bottom of the panel. Click "Enable Steam Play for Supported Titles."

Alternatively: Go to Steam > Settings > Steam Play and turn on the "Enable Steam Play for Supported Titles" option.

Valve has tested and fixed some Steam titles and you will now be able to play most of them. However, if you want to go further and play titles that even Valve hasn't tested, toggle the "Enable Steam Play for all titles" option.

2. Choose a version
You should use the Steam Proton version recommended by Steam: 3.7-8. This is the most stable version of Steam Proton at the moment.

3. Restart your Steam
After you have successfully activated Steam Proton, click "OK" and Steam will ask you to restart it for the changes to take effect. Restart it. Your computer will now play all of steam's whitelisted games seamlessly.

4. Launch Stardew Valley on Linux:
Before you can use Steam Proton, you must first download the Stardew Valley Windows game from Steam. When you download Stardew Valley for the first time, you will notice that the download size is slightly larger than the size of the game.
This happens because Steam will download your chosen Steam Proton version with this game as well. After the download is complete, simply click the "Play" button.

What is Forlorn: The mysteries of Highshadowland? Features and Description

Jessica hunts the supernatural - and roasts them all. Shotgun in one hand, sarcasm in the other. Trapped on a fog-shrouded island, she's got one job: find the missing kid, kick some demon ass, and make the bastard who dumped her here pay. Okay, that's three jobs. But who's counting?

Welcome to Highshadowland. Bring snacks. And a shotgun.

Jessica Forlorn is not your average monster hunter. She's sarcastic, reckless, and has the survival instincts of a wet cat - but damn, she's good at what she does. When a mysterious letter drags her to the fog-shrouded Highshadowland Island, she finds herself trapped in an abandoned orphanage with more secrets than rooms.

Her mission? Find a missing boy.

Her problem? The place is crawling with ghosts, demons, and things that definitely didn't go to Sunday school.

From flickering shadows to full-blown exorcism-level freak shows, Jessica's got one rule: Kill it before it monologues.

But she's not alone in this fight. Jessica has a sixth sense - a supernatural instinct that reveals hidden objects, secret stashes, and long-forgotten clues. You'll need it to survive.

Scavenge every corner for supplies: bandages, rubbing alcohol, painkillers - or just random junk like wood, metal, plastic, and rags. Because sometimes you have to build your own way out. Craft bandages, medkits and sometimes even new ammo for that trusty shotgun.

And if you want to uncover the truth? You'll have to read. Notes, diaries, torn pages - the island's dark history is scattered everywhere. Piece together the lore, or just blast your way through. Your call.

Forlorn: The Mysteries of Highshadowland is a horror adventure with a twisted sense of humor - think Supernatural meets Evil Dead, with a heroine who's equal parts Buffy, Ash Williams, and a walking headache for anything undead.

Explore a sprawling, cursed orphanage. Solve twisted puzzles. Survive jump scares. And try not to laugh when Jessica tells a demon to «wait its turn. »
