Guide: Installing I Make Saints (Steam Edition) on Linux with Steam Proton

This guide describes how to use Steam Proton to play and run Windows games on your Linux computer. Some games may not work or may break because Steam Proton is still at a very early stage.

1. Activating Steam Proton for Linux:
Proton is integrated into the Steam Client with "Steam Play." To activate proton, go into your steam client and click on Steam in the upper right corner. Then click on settings to open a new window. From here, click on the Steam Play button at the bottom of the panel. Click "Enable Steam Play for Supported Titles."

Alternatively: Go to Steam > Settings > Steam Play and turn on the "Enable Steam Play for Supported Titles" option.

Valve has tested and fixed some Steam titles and you will now be able to play most of them. However, if you want to go further and play titles that even Valve hasn't tested, toggle the "Enable Steam Play for all titles" option.

2. Choose a version
You should use the Steam Proton version recommended by Steam: 3.7-8. This is the most stable version of Steam Proton at the moment.

3. Restart your Steam
After you have successfully activated Steam Proton, click "OK" and Steam will ask you to restart it for the changes to take effect. Restart it. Your computer will now play all of steam's whitelisted games seamlessly.

4. Launch Stardew Valley on Linux:
Before you can use Steam Proton, you must first download the Stardew Valley Windows game from Steam. When you download Stardew Valley for the first time, you will notice that the download size is slightly larger than the size of the game.
This happens because Steam will download your chosen Steam Proton version with this game as well. After the download is complete, simply click the "Play" button.

What is I Make Saints (Steam Edition)? Features and Description

Explore the guilt-ridden mind of a deeply deranged individual in this short first-person psychological horror walking simulator. Discover the unspeakable nature of their crimes in this dark, narrative-driven underground cult classic.

WARNING : This game contains sensitive subject matter, such as references to crimes of a sexual nature. The game also contains flashing lights.

The game

I Make Saints is a short first-person psychological horror walking simulator which can be completed in 30 minutes.

Wander the personal hell of a deranged individual and discover the true nature of their terrible crimes through notes, objects and saintly icons left over different atmospheric and at times surreal environments.

I Make Saints is a raw, demanding work attempting to make sense of the most despicable acts. Some souls are so damaged that they end up damaging others. Some minds seeking redemption are nonetheless irredeemable. Some dark obsessions take hold and won't let go. Welcome to guilt.

Features

  • Four varied environments to explore : surreal, improbable places that feel like a dark dreamscape
  • Low risk gameplay : no enemies putting the player in danger, just a tense and heavy atmosphere
  • Disturbing narrative : true-crime style events are implied, but never shown

What's new in Steam Edition

Similar to a director's cut, this version of I Make Saints contains material that was originally cut from the initial release, such as :
  • An entirely new environment : walk the halls of the orphanage and shed some light on the past of the protagonist
  • Unused dark ambient musical track has been added back to the game
  • Minor changes to existing environments to ensure a better flow throughout

User Reviews

“[...] grim, dark horror with a backstory that is not especially pleasant. It's a first-person collecting game, as a lot of indie horrors are, but one that's a lot more interactive, and with a richer atmosphere than most.”
