Guide: Installing Cosmic Magus on Linux with Steam Proton

This guide describes how to use Steam Proton to play and run Windows games on your Linux computer. Some games may not work or may break because Steam Proton is still at a very early stage.

1. Activating Steam Proton for Linux:
Proton is integrated into the Steam Client with "Steam Play." To activate proton, go into your steam client and click on Steam in the upper right corner. Then click on settings to open a new window. From here, click on the Steam Play button at the bottom of the panel. Click "Enable Steam Play for Supported Titles."

Alternatively: Go to Steam > Settings > Steam Play and turn on the "Enable Steam Play for Supported Titles" option.

Valve has tested and fixed some Steam titles and you will now be able to play most of them. However, if you want to go further and play titles that even Valve hasn't tested, toggle the "Enable Steam Play for all titles" option.

2. Choose a version
You should use the Steam Proton version recommended by Steam: 3.7-8. This is the most stable version of Steam Proton at the moment.

3. Restart your Steam
After you have successfully activated Steam Proton, click "OK" and Steam will ask you to restart it for the changes to take effect. Restart it. Your computer will now play all of steam's whitelisted games seamlessly.

4. Launch Stardew Valley on Linux:
Before you can use Steam Proton, you must first download the Stardew Valley Windows game from Steam. When you download Stardew Valley for the first time, you will notice that the download size is slightly larger than the size of the game.
This happens because Steam will download your chosen Steam Proton version with this game as well. After the download is complete, simply click the "Play" button.

What is Cosmic Magus? Features and Description

A very challenging arcade spellcasting experience.

The strongest wizard of the cosmos has been cast into the unknown by a mythical power. Traveling amongst the stars seeking knowledge- specifically new spells to master- he came across a time loop in the middle of the universe and now is stuck, in an endless loop. His enemies found a way into this loop and now he must protect himself. Unfortunately for him, this loop has caused his memories of all the spells he has learned to diminish, forced to wait and see what his enemies use against him and copy those spells to use to defend himself.

Heavily inspired by Rubick, a playeable hero from the game Dota 2.

You are tasked with defeating endless waves of enemy warlocks that want to kill you, wait for them to use a spell and then steal it and use it on them.

Key features:
  • Psychedelic procedurally generated levels - For each gameplay a new map will be generated, avoid falling off the edge in the chaos of spellcasting madness.
  • Punishing dodge & spellcasting based combat system - Very fast phased gameplay, as time passes, enemies get stronger and more of them come at you, fortunately all your spells are AoE.
  • Very different spells - Arcane bolt, piano, frostbite and blink are currently all in the game with more to come.
  • Never ending madness - There is no time limit to this, you can play for hours if you can last it.
  • Leaderboards - Compare your scores with your friends.
  • Achievements - Collect them after finishing the many different challenges the game has to offer.

Spells:
  • Arcane Bolt - Shoots a arcane ball at the mouse position disintegrating whatever enemy comes in contact with it.
  • Frostbite - After a 2 second delay, spikes will raise up from the ground at the mouse position and kill/freeze whatever comes in contact with them.
  • Blink - Teleports the player to the mouse position instantly.
  • Piano - Throws a piano up in the sky that arcs and lands at the mouse position after a 1.5s delay.

A new free update has been planned for late April with new spells and enemies as well as many visual improvements.
