Guide: Installing FireJumpers Inferno on Linux with Steam Proton

This guide describes how to use Steam Proton to play and run Windows games on your Linux computer. Some games may not work or may break because Steam Proton is still at a very early stage.

1. Activating Steam Proton for Linux:
Proton is integrated into the Steam Client with "Steam Play." To activate proton, go into your steam client and click on Steam in the upper right corner. Then click on settings to open a new window. From here, click on the Steam Play button at the bottom of the panel. Click "Enable Steam Play for Supported Titles."

Alternatively: Go to Steam > Settings > Steam Play and turn on the "Enable Steam Play for Supported Titles" option.

Valve has tested and fixed some Steam titles and you will now be able to play most of them. However, if you want to go further and play titles that even Valve hasn't tested, toggle the "Enable Steam Play for all titles" option.

2. Choose a version
You should use the Steam Proton version recommended by Steam: 3.7-8. This is the most stable version of Steam Proton at the moment.

3. Restart your Steam
After you have successfully activated Steam Proton, click "OK" and Steam will ask you to restart it for the changes to take effect. Restart it. Your computer will now play all of steam's whitelisted games seamlessly.

4. Launch Stardew Valley on Linux:
Before you can use Steam Proton, you must first download the Stardew Valley Windows game from Steam. When you download Stardew Valley for the first time, you will notice that the download size is slightly larger than the size of the game.
This happens because Steam will download your chosen Steam Proton version with this game as well. After the download is complete, simply click the "Play" button.

What is FireJumpers Inferno? Features and Description

FireJumpers Inferno is a 3D cooperative multiplayer wildland firefighting game on an epic scale! With over 3.5 billion pixels of GIS data mapping out the western United States, it's really a professional training tool disguised as a game!

FireJumpers Inferno is an indie game that offers players access to play cooperative multiplayer wildland firefighting scenarios anywhere in the western United States! This forest fire fighting game has instant access to over 233,000 map tiles each with 15,000 pixels of GIS data (DLCs). These map tiles can be assembled together to generate small 4km x 4km maps to epic 200km x 200km size maps! The scale is 1:30 which means that every pixel of data on the map represents a 30m x 30m area. You'll have access to over 3.5 billion pixels of GIS data of real locations!

This wildland firefighting simulator uses real GIS data from the US Landfire government website and calculates fire spread based on Rothermel’s Surface Fire Spread Model. What that means is that there are 40 different ways a fire can burn. For example, there are 9 different fuel codes for grass, each with its own rate of spread based on wind speed. The unit movements are scaled accurately based on these fuel codes. A brush truck moves faster on a road (100km/h) but slower through low shrubs (20km/h).

FireJumpers Inferno is a game where a player starts off as a beginner-level Incident Commander in charge of 4 different agency types: Groundcrew, Dozer, Water Suppression, and Aircraft. Each agency will have a specified budget that will accommodate the hiring of units. These units also start at the beginner-level and players can upgrade them with experience points and in-game coins that are earned by completing scenarios! The scenarios are completed when the wildfires are contained, which means that the perimeter of the wildfires must be extinguished, either by direct fire attack, water suppression, fire lines and/or aircraft water/retardant support. Up to 200 simultaneous players will be able to team up on the same scenario and cooperatively contain wildfires.

There is still work to do and I'm planning to get the minimum viable product ready for release. There are many more features I'll be adding after launch.

Please support this indie game and add it to your wishlist!
