Guide: Installing Driver4VR on Linux with Steam Proton

This guide describes how to use Steam Proton to play and run Windows games on your Linux computer. Some games may not work or may break because Steam Proton is still at a very early stage.

1. Activating Steam Proton for Linux:
Proton is integrated into the Steam Client with "Steam Play." To activate proton, go into your steam client and click on Steam in the upper right corner. Then click on settings to open a new window. From here, click on the Steam Play button at the bottom of the panel. Click "Enable Steam Play for Supported Titles."

Alternatively: Go to Steam > Settings > Steam Play and turn on the "Enable Steam Play for Supported Titles" option.

Valve has tested and fixed some Steam titles and you will now be able to play most of them. However, if you want to go further and play titles that even Valve hasn't tested, toggle the "Enable Steam Play for all titles" option.

2. Choose a version
You should use the Steam Proton version recommended by Steam: 3.7-8. This is the most stable version of Steam Proton at the moment.

3. Restart your Steam
After you have successfully activated Steam Proton, click "OK" and Steam will ask you to restart it for the changes to take effect. Restart it. Your computer will now play all of steam's whitelisted games seamlessly.

4. Launch Stardew Valley on Linux:
Before you can use Steam Proton, you must first download the Stardew Valley Windows game from Steam. When you download Stardew Valley for the first time, you will notice that the download size is slightly larger than the size of the game.
This happens because Steam will download your chosen Steam Proton version with this game as well. After the download is complete, simply click the "Play" button.

What is Driver4VR? Features and Description

Driver4VR is a software program that provides body tracking, head/hand tracking and controller emulation, utilities, and alternative VR configurations.

Body tracking, head and hand tracking, controller emulation, and utilities.

When using the Driver4VR for the first time, it MUST be started from the "Launch" button, to ensure any additional services and drivers it requires get installed.

Driver4VR allows adding body tracking for your existing VR setups like Oculus, HTC Vive, or Valve Index.
For 3DoF Headsets like phone-vr, PSVR or VRTek, Driver4VR can add position tracking and controller emulation.
It also uses alternative devices (previous generation consoles, mice, keyboard) to emulate virtual reality controllers and input.

Driver4VR is also the main source of funding for WalkinVR, the first software that allows people with disabilities to play Virtual Reality games. Please check https://store.steampowered.com/app/1248360/WalkinVR/.

Body tracking

Driver4VR can emulate body tracking with Kinect, PS Controllers with PS Eye cameras via PSMoveService, Nolo VR.
There is also an experimental way of tracking with a single PS Eye camera and Camera Markers.

Calibration of these body trackers with your existing VR setup is very quick and easy.

Head and hand tracking, emulation of the controller

Driver4VR can also add positional tracking (6DoF) in case you have a headset that just supports the rotation like phone-based VR, VR Tek, Pimax, etc. It uses Kinect to emulate positional tracking.

Controllers can be emulated with devices like PS Move, Joy-Con, Wii Remote, VR Gamepad, Mouse, Xbox Controller, Keyboard. Combined with positional tracking makes a complete virtual reality setup with hand tracking and input.

Without Kinect you can use those devices alone to emulate position a'la Oculus Go which is called Virtual Tracking.

Please note that for the tracking the experience might be limited compared to legitimate VR.

Utilities

Driver4VR is also set of utilities like Virtual Move, Input Emulation, fix floor position, emulation of broken Index thumbstick with touchpad, and others.

(tVR) - Virtual Reality on Monitor or TV

Driver4VR allows the play of some of the Virtual Reality games on TV and this is called (tVR). This is an alternative way to consume VR content for people who for some reason can't consume VR in a classic way that is with headset and controllers.
