Guide: Installing Walking Simulator A Month Club (Complete Edition) on Linux with Steam Proton

This guide describes how to use Steam Proton to play and run Windows games on your Linux computer. Some games may not work or may break because Steam Proton is still at a very early stage.

1. Activating Steam Proton for Linux:
Proton is integrated into the Steam Client with "Steam Play." To activate proton, go into your steam client and click on Steam in the upper right corner. Then click on settings to open a new window. From here, click on the Steam Play button at the bottom of the panel. Click "Enable Steam Play for Supported Titles."

Alternatively: Go to Steam > Settings > Steam Play and turn on the "Enable Steam Play for Supported Titles" option.

Valve has tested and fixed some Steam titles and you will now be able to play most of them. However, if you want to go further and play titles that even Valve hasn't tested, toggle the "Enable Steam Play for all titles" option.

2. Choose a version
You should use the Steam Proton version recommended by Steam: 3.7-8. This is the most stable version of Steam Proton at the moment.

3. Restart your Steam
After you have successfully activated Steam Proton, click "OK" and Steam will ask you to restart it for the changes to take effect. Restart it. Your computer will now play all of steam's whitelisted games seamlessly.

4. Launch Stardew Valley on Linux:
Before you can use Steam Proton, you must first download the Stardew Valley Windows game from Steam. When you download Stardew Valley for the first time, you will notice that the download size is slightly larger than the size of the game.
This happens because Steam will download your chosen Steam Proton version with this game as well. After the download is complete, simply click the "Play" button.

What is Walking Simulator A Month Club (Complete Edition)? Features and Description

Over 40 walking sims by Connor Sherlock.

Delve into the forgotten ruins...

Nothing gets in the way of the landscape. The player is merely there to witness, and there are no gameplay mechanics to dictate how the world arranges itself. There is no win condition, and no goals other than the ones you make. Set off in any direction for as long or as little as you see fit, taking only your memories with you.

The Walking Simulator A Month Club was an experiment to create and release a vast, explorable landscape with accompanying soundtrack every month that ran from 2015-2020. Between the solo development and the improvisational approach to design, some pretty wild and evocative stuff came out of it. Go forth and wander!

Features:

  • Over 40 massive (infinite?) worlds to explore.
  • Over 5 hours of music
  • Includes 5 unlreased walking sims from ZONES: ACT 2
  • Includes older classics like TRIHAYWBFRRFYH, CONDOR, and Voice of Vamana from 2014
  • Handcrafted by a single person over multiple years instead of going to church or therapy
  • Less than 50 cents a game, each of which is meant to last at least ~15 minutes
  • Jump off the edge of the world if you can

User Reviews

“It will remind you of the transportative power of videogames.”
Bennet Foddy

“You know when you fall asleep at 2am during the credits of an artsy 70s horror or sci-fi film where the synth soundtrack warbles over slow shots of landscapes blown out in unearthly colours with lens filters, then your dreams trap you inside a seemingly endless version of that unreal landscape and the synth warbles on and you feel curiosity and unease but not quite fear? And you walk and you walk and you run and you run and you glide and leap and the landscape very slowly reveals anomalous objects like buildings that aren’t buildings and elevated highways that aren’t highways and incomprehensibly large crystals and citrine shards that glide through the sky like angular goldfish and it’s just you and the music and the landscape possibly forever and sometimes you move with such terrible speed that you fear you have become something terrible? Connor Sherlock’s walking simulators often make me feel that.”
Rock Paper Shotgun

“This collection of worlds, taken together, is the greatest walking simulator I’ve ever played.”
Tevis Thompson
