Guide: Installing Spectrum on Linux with Steam Proton

This guide describes how to use Steam Proton to play and run Windows games on your Linux computer. Some games may not work or may break because Steam Proton is still at a very early stage.

1. Activating Steam Proton for Linux:
Proton is integrated into the Steam Client with "Steam Play." To activate proton, go into your steam client and click on Steam in the upper right corner. Then click on settings to open a new window. From here, click on the Steam Play button at the bottom of the panel. Click "Enable Steam Play for Supported Titles."

Alternatively: Go to Steam > Settings > Steam Play and turn on the "Enable Steam Play for Supported Titles" option.

Valve has tested and fixed some Steam titles and you will now be able to play most of them. However, if you want to go further and play titles that even Valve hasn't tested, toggle the "Enable Steam Play for all titles" option.

2. Choose a version
You should use the Steam Proton version recommended by Steam: 3.7-8. This is the most stable version of Steam Proton at the moment.

3. Restart your Steam
After you have successfully activated Steam Proton, click "OK" and Steam will ask you to restart it for the changes to take effect. Restart it. Your computer will now play all of steam's whitelisted games seamlessly.

4. Launch Stardew Valley on Linux:
Before you can use Steam Proton, you must first download the Stardew Valley Windows game from Steam. When you download Stardew Valley for the first time, you will notice that the download size is slightly larger than the size of the game.
This happens because Steam will download your chosen Steam Proton version with this game as well. After the download is complete, simply click the "Play" button.

What is Spectrum? Features and Description

Spectrum is a short puzzle-platformer about color in a dull world. Explore over 100+ levels of tight, puzzle-platforming to become the king of all colors. Switch colors to interact with a multitude of mechanics that allow for deep, complex interaction.

The last game on the Pretendo GameMan, Spectrum is a short puzzle platformer about sparks of color in a dull world. With over 100+ levels and too many secrets to count, Spectrum features an engaging categoric split between tight platforming and rapid, on-the-fly puzzle solving.

Puzzles in Spectrum are challenges to utilize all of your colors effectively. Evade a missile by enabling a wall in front of it, or avoid a dangerous spike by disabling its color. Your active color can be swapped at any time to accomplish all sorts of tasks. This core mechanic is the founding principle for Spectrum. All other factors, levels, secrets, and interactions are designed around proper and creative use of your colors.

Platforming in Spectrum is crafted to be precise and intuitive. It's necessary to keep momentum and make narrow, intentional jumps. Spectrum has systems in place to help make fluid movement easier, but still intricate and satisfying. Mis-inputs and buggy movement are a thing of the past; the only skill cap in Spectrum is the player's ability. Many other mechanics are thrown into the mix to make the base movement fresh and interesting as progression and mastery continues.

Furthermore, Spectrum features:
  • 100+ hand crafted levels to conquer and explore
  • 5 main colors to unlock
  • 8 sectors of 'campaign' levels
  • Sectors of hidden optional levels
  • A multitude of secrets hidden all over the place
  • And a crown for the king of the Spectrum, in addition to other cosmetics

To finish things out, here's what Spectrum doesn't feature:
  • Floaty movement
  • A deep story with many characters
  • Lootboxes
  • Quick-time events
  • Water levels
  • A 100-player battle royale mode
