Guide: Installing ExtraGalactica on Linux with Steam Proton

This guide describes how to use Steam Proton to play and run Windows games on your Linux computer. Some games may not work or may break because Steam Proton is still at a very early stage.

1. Activating Steam Proton for Linux:
Proton is integrated into the Steam Client with "Steam Play." To activate proton, go into your steam client and click on Steam in the upper right corner. Then click on settings to open a new window. From here, click on the Steam Play button at the bottom of the panel. Click "Enable Steam Play for Supported Titles."

Alternatively: Go to Steam > Settings > Steam Play and turn on the "Enable Steam Play for Supported Titles" option.

Valve has tested and fixed some Steam titles and you will now be able to play most of them. However, if you want to go further and play titles that even Valve hasn't tested, toggle the "Enable Steam Play for all titles" option.

2. Choose a version
You should use the Steam Proton version recommended by Steam: 3.7-8. This is the most stable version of Steam Proton at the moment.

3. Restart your Steam
After you have successfully activated Steam Proton, click "OK" and Steam will ask you to restart it for the changes to take effect. Restart it. Your computer will now play all of steam's whitelisted games seamlessly.

4. Launch Stardew Valley on Linux:
Before you can use Steam Proton, you must first download the Stardew Valley Windows game from Steam. When you download Stardew Valley for the first time, you will notice that the download size is slightly larger than the size of the game.
This happens because Steam will download your chosen Steam Proton version with this game as well. After the download is complete, simply click the "Play" button.

What is ExtraGalactica? Features and Description

A college football captain's fight to defend his rival's home-world from the rogue villain in his Professor's favorite arcade game. Slow time using Retro-Dash as you pilot Super G Machine through waves of scaling enemy's, defeat huge bosses, and explore Celestro with Captain Flerp and his copycat Nova!

ExtraGalactica is the spirited adventure of Captain Flerp, a flunking college football captain, and his fight to defend his rival school's home-world, Celestro, from destruction by the hand of a retro arcade game villain named Anode. Accompanying him is his copycat, Nova, a shape-shifting super agile space kitty.

This is the fight you've been waiting for! Take it to Celestro, Defeat Anode, and Stomp the Argonauts in a gridiron grudge-match of the ages.

Features:
  • (Coming Soon) Campaign mode will allow you to explore Celestro with Captain Flerp and his copycat, Nova, in a one-of-a-kind platformer and shoot 'em up game
  • Pilot the legendary spaceship, Super G Machine, to defend Celestro from Anode in a stylish and modern bullet hell space shooter
  • Land your ship to help fortify Celestro's defenses against impending space threats and save your rivals at all costs, or it is Game Over
  • Use Retro Dash to gain a speed advantage over your adversaries while simultaneously slowing time to carefully traverse a hectic bullet-riddled battlefield
  • Randomly generated space battles ensure no two playthroughs of any game mode are the same
  • Infinite Mode is a never-ending trip through the space shooter section of this game, featuring fun visual upgrades for your weapons systems and a scaling difficulty system that makes it easy for newcomers to hop in and have some fun while giving veteran pilot's a late-game that is sure to test their mettle

Release Plans:
ExtraGalactica is labor of love which is built by VERY few hands. In order to best share our work with our community, we will be rolling out different game modes and episodes of the Campaign as they are completed.

Our initial release will include Infinite Mode which is centered around our space shooter gameplay that we have built for the Campaign. After that our focus will turn towards completing development of the platformer section of our first episode of the Campaign. With time, we hope to also complete a multiplayer mode for the space shooter and many more episodes of the Campaign.

As such, we will organize this game in a manner where each game mode or episode of Campaign will be packaged as DLC and sold à la carte. If you are interested in all of what ExtraGalactica may have to offer, we will also provide a "Full Game" route for one low price which will stake your claim to any and all game modes and Campaign episodes that we release for ExtraGalactica.

Thank you so much for joining us on this incredible journey as we remake a rare arcade game you've (probably) never played (unless you are the type to troll around auto body shops in North Carolina... then maybe you've played it before).
